When I’m pottering about in the kitchen, I like to have some background noise to keep me company. It’s either a dedicated playlist or a podcast I’m listening to, directly from my iPhone. It’s so easy to just leave it sitting propped up on the counter, whilst I’m cooking or eating. I love creating playlists, in fact I’m slightly obsessed with it! So much so, I’m sharing my favourite songs and podcasts that are currently cooking up a storm in my kitchen.
Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse – Valerie
I don’t think I will ever tire of Amy’s version of Valerie. Probably my favourite tune to dance about the kitchen to, whilst waiting on the oven timer to beep.
Honeyblood – Bud
This band is made up of two girl from Scotland. I love their pop-indie sound. Their debut is fantastic. Funny enough, I first mentioned them in my favourites post from July, last year! I would love to see them live!
The Stone Roses – Waterfall
A classic tune but a timeless band. It has a Summer vibe to it.
East India Youth – Turn Away
The newest tune added to my playlist. I saw this guy on the tv, I think it was Glastonbury coverage and I really liked him. It’s not too often I instantly like someone music wise!
Madeon – Home
I’ve been listening to this song non-stop for months now. It made it into my March favourites post.
Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl
I used to love listening to Tori Amos, but it’s only been recently that I’ve taken to blasting out this song whilst making breakfast.
Wolf Alice – Bros
I read about this band in NME and had to check them out. This song stood out to me, it’s got a pretty catchy tune!
Grouplove – Colours
Jump around to this drying the dishes and the dog looking at me like I’m mad!
Calvin Harris – Acceptable in the 80s
I am not a fan of Calvin Harris but I’ve always liked this song and the 80s are just cool. I normally play it a few times in a row!
Suzanne Vega – Tom’s Diner
Suzanne Vega is so underrated. This is probably one of her best known songs, originally recorded a cappella but then it was remixed and released as a single. Her gentle sounding voice just works wonderfully over the beats.
I can’t finish up without mentioning a couple of podcasts I’m glued into at the moment…
The BBC food Programme – the food programme covers everything from diet, to school dinners, to BBQs. My favourite foodie podcast to listen to and get me into that kitchen zone!
The Sporkful – it’s not for foodies but for eaters! That’s the tagline and sets the scene for these guys. Expect to find all manners of interesting things about food! I particularly enjoyed one of their recent topics, “is vanilla ice cream too vanilla?”
Welcome to Nightvale – “turn on your radio and hide” I must admit, I usually listen to this at night in bed but sometimes I will re-listen to it when I’m in the kitchen. Set in the fictional town of night vale, the podcast is done in a radio style that covers all the strange happenings going on in the town. It’s so addictive!
So that’s it. What are you listening to at the moment? Recommend any good podcasts?
