Weekend Wanderings

Life | March 23, 2015 | By

Sometimes it’s just nice to have a quiet relaxing weekend, away from all the crowds and noise of the city. Neil and I decided we would take Hannah out for long walks and take pictures of the local area.

We started off our weekend by watching the solar eclipse. It was a pretty cloudy morning, so there wasn’t much we could view but still it got us up out of bed early.

We took Hannah along Bangor’s seafront, which has a really nice coastal walkway. You can get fantastic views of the sea and any small sail boats passing by. If you ever visit N.Ireland you should definitely come to Bangor. There’s plenty of eateries and bars nearby, as well as Bangor Castle and several parks. Neil and I discussed the good news that Queens Parade, which is located on the opposite side of the seafront, is finally getting a facelift (after 20 years of debates on planning).

On Saturday we took a trip to Holywood and ventured into territories unknown; Redburn Park. I wasn’t exactly dressed for the hilly landscape, as we had originally planned to go out for lunch but we put that off until next weekend. Luckily my boots were very comfortable. This has to be the first time I’ve gone bare legged since last Summer!

When we got back, I worked some more on a recipe I’ve been testing out for Easter. Baking is so much fun when it goes right…recipe testing takes patience and money. Extremely annoying when a bake ends up in the bin! Glad to report I’m finally happy with the outcome and will be posting it up soonish. Watch this space!

No takeaways on Saturday night, instead we had Lamb cutlets seasoned with rosemary, mixed herbs, crushed garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper. On the side was cous-cous.  I’m not a big fan of lamb but the seasoning made it taste so good. We also watched the latest Paranormal Activity film. Scary in a good way!

Sunday was spent chilling out in the house. Of course we took Hannah out for a walk and the good thing about walking her on Sundays is that she can get as muddy as she wants because Sunday = bath day!

It was brilliant to get out walking. I really like walking, as I find it has many benefits that other types of exercise don’t afford me. I find it relaxing as you can go at your own pace and take in the fresh air and scenery. It burns calories without leaving you feeling breathless. And it’s easy on your body – you’re less likely to injure yourself!

After this weekend I’m now on a challenge to discover new places to go dog walking in Northern Ireland. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

Did you watch the solar eclipse?
