Revlon Pink in the Afternoon: a girl shouldn’t read this without her lipstick

Things I Like | February 11, 2015 | By

Scanning the aisles in Boots I’ve already decided that I’m going to buy a pink lipstick, I just haven’t seen it yet. Like the way some people judge a book by its cover, I judge lipsticks by their names. Sky Line Pink? No. Gentlemen Prefer Pink? Definitely no!  Pink in the Afternoon? Ah…I like the sound of that! I can imagine summer afternoons in a pretty dress and this name adorning my lips. Now comes the important part, will the colour live up to my expectation? I swatched it and instantly fell in love. Into the basket it went.

Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in 415 Pink in the Afternoon is the closest to the pink lipstick Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast At Tiffany’s as you’re ever going to get (so I later learnt). I wasn’t looking for a dupe, nevertheless it was nice to know anyway. It’s a neutral medium pink with a hint of peach and no shimmer running through it. It’s flattering to wear during the day time as the shade of pink is not harsh and the peachy tone complements my pale skin in the winter sunlight.
It feels nice on the lips, with the creamy texture reminding me of Urban Decay’s Revolution Lipsticks but at half the price. It isn’t a long-wearing lipstick but it doesn’t claim to be. I’m sure there are tips and tricks on how to make your lipstick last longer but really who has time for all that during the working week? It was no problem for me to reapply it every now and then. In fact there’s something enjoyable about whipping your lipstick out of your bag and smoothing it over your lips, especially in winter time.
Now, I am a sucker for packaging. I literally have a drawer of makeup products filled up like a treasure chest of gold and ancient artefacts that Indiana Jones would be proud of. But this one won’t be going there when its finished. The packaging is bog standard; feels cheap, looks boring and certainly isn’t anywhere near as classical as the colour. That really is the only negative point I have about it, though. The colour really is beautiful. My MAC Peach Blossom has been retired for the moment. All I can hope for now are those hot summer days and a pretty dress. Yep…I gotta look out for a pretty dress now…

Do you keep makeup because of the packaging?
