10 Simple Ways to cheer up on Mondays

‘I need a day in-between Saturday and Sunday’. 

I saw this logo on a tee-shirt a few weeks ago and it made me think about how many of us dislike Mondays, or ‘Moandays’ as I like to call them. There are a few things I’ve done in the past to make this day that little bit easier and seeing that logo inspired me further to think of a few more ideas to make the best of Mondays.

1. The Fake Lie-in

 

This is something I’ve done for a few years now. All you do is set your alarm extra early so you can hit the snooze button and trick yourself into thinking you’re having a lie-in. For example; if you normally set your alarm at 6:45 and rise at 7:00, change your alarm to 5:45 and then you’ll trick yourself into thinking you’ve had an extra hour in bed. Save this just for Mondays so the novelty doesn’t wear off. 

 

2. Have something to look forward to

 

That movie you were going to watch on Saturday night? Save it for Monday night instead and give yourself something to look forward to when you get home from work. 

 

 

3. Treat Day 

 

Rebel against the diet and make Mondays your treat day. Have that triple chocolate slice of cake or that greasy fried egg, sausage and bacon sandwich at lunch and help break up your work day.

 

4. YouTube It

 

Watch funny animal clips on your breaks. If this doesn’t cheer you up, I don’t know what else will! My faves are always dog clips, like this one dogs don’t like the bath

 

 

5. Music

 

Make a playlist of your favourite feel-good songs. Play it only on Mondays. Change it from time to time and give yourself something fun to do on a Sunday evening. I could do with some new recommendations!

 

 

6. Do A Good Deed

 

Help out a work colleague with a difficult task. Give that old lady your seat on the train (ok that one goes without saying but you catch my drift). Doing a good deed will in return make you feel good!

 

 

7. Lift the Office Morale

 

Bring in some sweets, like Quality Streets. Walk around the office and offer the sweets to your colleagues. Ask them how their weekend was. Be brave and say hello to the one you dislike. Sometimes the person you once disliked becomes your friend. You won’t know unless you try and if it fails? Well you can live knowing you at least made an effort.

8. Send a love text to your one and only

 
 
Surprise them with a lovey dovey text message, go full out mushy and not the usual “see you at 6”.
 

9. Choose your outfits for the week ahead

 

Monday mornings are bad enough without having to spend time picking out what to wear. Get organised over the weekend. Make a space in your wardrobe for your work clothes. So come Monday morning, there’s no running around like a mad thing trying to decide what to wear.

 

 

10. Think Positive

 

A quick search of Pinterest and you’ll find plently of positive quotes to get you through the day. I always think to myself that Monday means four days closer to Friday…oh yeah!Use the hashtag #moandays and share what you do to get through the most hated day of the week.
